Boston Public Library Redesign

Established in 1848, the Boston Public Library (BPL) is considered one of the largest municipal libraries in the United States. The Library system—which includes the Central Library and twenty-four separate branches—contains approximately twenty-three million items. Each day, over a thousand people visit the Library in pursuit of research and afternoon reading material. The Boston Public Library’s branding redesign offers a visual representation of this historic library’s complex circulation system and its diverse collection. It also seeks to modernize and capture the welcoming and spirited character of the elegant repository.
